Black & White nursery {DIY style}

I'm really picky when it comes to baby Wade. I don't really like cute baby stuff. I keep thinking of him as my little man and I wouldn't put my big man, Husband, in a shirt covered in duckies.

Ha, ha. Just thought of Husband in ducky footed pajamas. He would probably love them.

Does anyone else feel this way? Maybe once he's here I'll suddenly go googoo over little woodland creatures and trains. But right now I'm having a hard time transitioning from liking adult styles to thinking monkey faces on his bum are cute. Needless to say he currently has a lot of stripes in his wardrobe.

One place where I'm making the greatest effort to create something I'll like is in his little nursery. And I'm having soooo much fun making a room that will look awesome. {I'll show tidbits as I get them done, but a nursery reveal will have to wait until February time frame when we're in our house and he actually has a nursery.}

I went through 98 ideas that kept just not meshing the way I wanted, and then I cam across this black and white room on Pinterest. I was inspired. I then found a slew of other black and white nursery/kid room that I fell in love with. Wade's room will also have a lot of grey and splashes of red.

I just finished these two little receiving blankets:

They're simple cotton on the front and fleece on the back to make them a little thicker, since we'll be in Minnesota and he's due in the middle of the winter.

I love how they turned out! I am also the worst seamstress in the world. So don't look too close. Fleece is super forgiving to work with, but it's also hard cause you shouldn't iron it and it stretched and warped a little in the creating. Oh well. Wade's going to spit up on them and such, so who really cares. I used this tutorial for help and inspiration. I made them each about a yard in size.

I've also made this cute little sheep. From this tutorial.

Oh I love this silly looking sheep. It makes me so happy to look at. I might just make another one to be his friend.

I have a bunch more little man projects coming up - get ready! Husband has been making fun of me as I continue to walk in with new batches of black and white fabric. Wade might end up with enough blankets to keep a small army of tiny soldiers warm.

  1. I would like to point out that a sheep could be considered a 'cute, woodland creature.'
